iPad Air 2 teardown: in pictures.

Apple’s latest iPad Air builds on everything that made the first one great. The most powerful to date, the iPad Air 2 packs in an A8X processor, 8 Megapixel camera, faster Wi-Fi and Apple’s Touch ID

The iPad Air 2 sees the long awaited addition of Touch ID, Apple’s biometric security technology. Making use of your fingerprint to unlock your device, purchase items and more, Touch ID is also featured on the new iPhone 6 and iPad Mini 3

The new iPad Air 2 is 1.4 mm thinner than last year’s Air, and its 6.1mm thickness actually makes it thinner than the 6.9mm thick iPhone 6.

Apple also introduced the gold colourway to the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini.

For reasons related to size and cost, Apple have dispensed with screws and instead used glue to bond much of the iPad Air 2. To open up the Air 2, the iFixit team use a combination of prying and heating to loosen the adhesive.
Opening up the iPad Air 2 reveals the first glimpse of its internals, with the battery predictably taking up most of the space
After the adhesive is weakened, the iFixit team demonstrates how the iPad Air 2 is comprised of two distinct pieces. Significantly, much like technology seen on the new iMac with Retina Screen and even the iPhone 6, the iPad’s screen (on the right) is fused into one unit

The most requested addition to the iPad Air 2, Apple’s Touch ID brings biometric authentication to the iPad range. A feature now almost universal across Apple mobile devices, is it something you’d trust your data with? Take our poll to let us know.
