Facebook Messenger Tops iOS Charts.

The Messenger app by Facebook is currently ranked among the most popular apps for iOS.

As the year comes to a close, companies are counting out their "best of" winners, annual chart-toppers, and "most popular" lists.
When it comes to apps, it's no surprise that Facebook has a solid hold on its popularity as a downloaded smartphone essential. Facebook's Messenger has now made it to the top of the iOS downloaded charts, and is still growing as users are being nudged into switching their mobile conversations over to the messenger instead of on the original app. For free downloads, Facebook Messenger is followed by Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram, and not surprisingly, and Facebook app itself holding the next four slots as most-downloaded on iOS.

Facebook has been making many additions and improvements to Messenger, including plans to enable users tosend money through the app. Enhancements like this are sure to keep the app in good standing on both Apple and Google's store charts. Other high-placers for combined free and paid downloads include #2 for iOS "Heads Up!" along with "Clash of Clans," a freemium game. Other top competitors are Google Maps and Candy Crush, along with games such as Minecraft and Plague Inc. It's been a fruitful year for free, paid, and freemium apps alike, and 2015 will likely continue with highly steep competition particularly for social media companies when it comes to snagging the most downloads.
