Jennifer Lawrence Is Done With X-Men After ‘Apocalypse’

With a name like “X-Men: Apocalypse,” it’s all but certain that the next film in the superhero franchise will have dire consequences for at least some of your favorite characters — and while we don’t know exactly what fate awaits Mystique, we do know that the clock is about to run out on Jennifer Lawrence‘s time playing the shape-shifting mutant.

Speaking with MTV News at the red carpet premiere of her new film “Serena,” Lawrence confirmed in no uncertain terms that “Apocalypse” marks her final ride with the “X-Men” movies. “It is my last one, actually,” she said, with no further elaboration.
So much for that Mystique spinoff, I guess!

It’s not a shock to hear that Lawrence and “X-Men” are parting ways, even if it’s difficult to swallow; her work as Mystique has been one of the major highlights of the rebooted franchise ever since “X-Men: First Class.”

But with the casting of new mutants Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm, and the time-altering ending of “Days of Future Past,” it sure seems like a new era of “X-Men” is about to begin, while the reign of James McAvoy’s Xavier, Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, Nicholas Hoult’s Beast and Lawrence’s Mystique draws to its natural end.

Mark it in your calendars, then: Lawrence makes her final Mystique appearance in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” in theaters May 27, 2016
